Juggling a full course load, volunteer and work positions, and a social life may sound impossible, but you will be surprised by how much can be accomplished in 24 hours. Here are a few tips that can help you successfully balance a busy lifestyle.
Firstly, you must prioritize and decide what task you will begin with. It is important to note that you might not be able to complete every task to perfection, that is a privilege given to those with ample time. Prioritizing can be a very simple and short process. Begin by listing all you have to complete and rank tasks based on urgency and importance. The most important and most time-restricted tasks are the ones you should do first, once you finish move on to the next most important task. You might benefit from setting time limits for each task, this will ensure you stay on track and use your time as efficiently as possible.
Now you have prioritized, which helped reduce your stress somewhat, but you still have a lot to get done in a short amount of time. At this point, plan when you will complete each task. You can use a weekly schedule, agenda, to do list, or any other technique that will help you organize your thoughts. This will ensure that the next time you sit down at a desk to work, you will know exactly what you need to complete in that time frame.
Finally, try to treat your day like a 9-5 workday. By studying during the day you will remain focused, achieve over 40 hours of studying a week, and you will be free to relax in the evenings. Take advantage of free time in between classes by staying on campus and studying instead of going home or back to your residence room.
There are many different ways to manage your time wisely and efficiently; prioritizing, planning, and working during productive hours are just a few. Check out our resources for more tips that might work for you!
And remember, you have the same number of hours in your day as Beyonce!
