Linguistic justice in assessment

Date

Location

Zoom (Online)

We all come to post-secondary classrooms with different linguistic and academic experiences; however, at most post-secondary institutions in Canada, certain varieties of English are valued more than others. As instructors at Queen’s attempt to create more inclusive learning experiences, they are encouraged to consider how to best support multilingual students with their academic success. Linguistic justice, and the decolonization of language, focuses on the inequitable systems and structures that inhibit multilingual students from thriving in their learning. In this workshop, participants will engage in activities to develop an understanding of linguistic justice concepts and explore strategies for creating linguistically responsive assessments.
